Brand Story

Who we are

Ikigai Digital is a boutique Financial Services consultancy that builds, launches, and runs outstanding digital banks.

The name "Ikigai" (生き甲斐) is a Japanese concept meaning the intersection of what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be rewarded for — your reason for being. For us, that intersection is banking transformation.

We are not generalists. We specialise in modern thin core banking systems, event-driven architecture, and modern ways of working — giving clients speed, agility, and measurable outcomes.

"A key achievement of our collaboration was the complete modernisation of banking services. What particularly stands out is the commitment to contemporary development methodologies, exceptional technical proficiency, and unwavering professionalism."

— Rolf Eichweber, Former CEO, Old Mutual Bank Limited

Core Values

What we stand for

Three principles that define how we show up — for clients, for the craft, and for each other.

01
Accountability

We’ve built banks before.

We take full ownership of outcomes, not just outputs. We show up with context, not credentials. When something is about to break, we say so — before it does.

“The posting instruction pattern will fail at month-end. We’ve seen it before. Here’s the fix.”

02
Mastery

We master our craft, then teach the machines.

Expertise is not a starting point — it is an ongoing commitment. We go deep on the domain before we automate it. Shallow knowledge produces shallow AI.

“We ran 400 simulation cycles before the agent produced its first test case. That’s why the numbers are exact.”

03
Radical Candour

We know what AI can do. And what it cannot.

We say what needs to be said, even when it’s uncomfortable. We will not oversell a solution to close a deal. We will not stay quiet when the approach is wrong.

“You don’t need an AI agent for this. A well-structured query will get you there in a tenth of the time.”

Typography

Type system

Inter is the brand typeface — clean, technical, and highly legible at all scales. Headlines use Light weight (300); body uses Regular (400) to Medium (500).

Primary Typeface
Inter
Aa Bb Cc Dd Ee Ff Gg
Hh Ii Jj Kk Ll Mm Nn

Light 300 Regular 400 Medium 500 Semibold 600 Bold 700
Google Fonts — google.com/fonts · Fallback: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif
Critical Rule

Headlines are Light (300), never bold. This is the most defining typographic trait of the brand — heavy headlines break the system.

Eyebrow Format

Eyebrow labels use the / PREFIX pattern:

/ SECTION NAME

Uppercase · 12px · 0.3em letter-spacing · Cyan · Always precede section headings

Type Scale
72px Light 300 Hero H1 — Digital Banking

Gradient Text Effect

Digital Banking

Apply to one or two emphasis words in hero headings only. Never to entire paragraphs.

Voice & Tone

How we speak

The voice is confident, direct, and technically precise. We speak as a peer to senior banking technologists — never pitching down, never vague.

Core Writing Rules
01

Lead with the point

No throat-clearing, no preamble. State the position first, then support it.

02

Concrete over abstract

"Months compress into days" — not "significantly accelerate timelines."

03

Possessive framing

Write "your bank", "your teams", "your customers" — not "the bank", "the team."

04

Rhythm: short then long

Short sentences for impact. Longer sentences for elaboration. Alternate the rhythm.

05

Negation builds trust

State what you will NOT do. It signals honesty and sets clear expectations.

06

British English

Honour, colour, behaviour, organisation, specialise, analyse, modernisation.

Words to Avoid

These words are banned from Ikigai Digital copy. They signal vagueness, hype, or consultant-speak.

Revolutionary Cutting-edge Next-generation Disruptive Game-changing Unlock potential Leverage Synergy Groundbreaking Transformative (alone)
Sentence Patterns
Problem → Stance
"Legacy systems are slow and expensive to change. We eliminate that constraint."
Possessive framing
"Your institutional knowledge, always evolving, always accessible."
We meet you where you are
"Whether you're just starting or rebuilding at scale, we'll meet you where you are."
Negation as credibility
"This is not a template engagement. It is a practitioner-led build."
Builder identity
"Built by bank builders, for bank builders."
Independence narrative
"Our success metric is simple: how quickly your teams can operate without us."
Tagline Structures

Object. Scope. Outcome.

"One gateway. Every model. Complete control."

Action phrase, compressed

"From product idea to launch-ready bank in months, not years."

Your X, qualifiers

"Your banking platform, always modern, always yours."

Visual Language

Visual motifs

A consistent set of visual treatments defines the brand's digital presence — from glow orbs to card patterns.

Do & Don't

Brand in practice

Do

Use dark backgrounds (#0C0028 or #050039) as the primary canvas. The brand lives in the dark.

Use Light (300) weight for headlines and Display text. Heaviness is reserved for very small type only.

Use muted lavender (#D8D0EA) for body copy — not white. White is reserved for headlines.

Prefix all section eyebrows with / in uppercase, wide-tracked cyan text.

Keep buttons pill-shaped. Use purple for primary actions, dark-fill for secondary.

Write in British English — colour, behaviour, organisation, specialise, recognise.

Use possessive language: "your bank," "your teams," "your customers."

Don't

Don't use white or light backgrounds as a primary surface. This breaks the brand's dark character.

Don't use bold (700) weight for headlines. Heavy headings are off-brand.

Don't use hype words: revolutionary, cutting-edge, disruptive, game-changing, synergy.

Don't use rectangular or sharp-cornered buttons. The brand is always pill-shaped.

Don't write "the bank," "the team" — use "your bank," "your team."

Don't apply the gradient text effect to entire paragraphs or sections — one to two words maximum.

Don't place the logo on busy, low-contrast, or colourful backgrounds.
